The launch of the Bootstrap Fund
Thursday 23rd February saw the launch of the Bootstrap Fund at the Houses of Parliament. The launch brought together the Bootstrap network from staff and tenants, to press and funders.
The event was an opportunity for everyone to hear more about, and celebrate, the work of our multi-talented tenants who are supported by the Bootstrap Fund.
Diane Abbott MP kindly hosted the evening and opened with a speech focussing on the importance of the Bootstrap Fund to preserve Hackney’s vibrant nature. Ben Johnson from the Mayor’s Office discussed Sadiq Khan’s plans to prioritise open workspaces such as Bootstrap Company in light of London’s property prices continuing to rise.
Olivier Kugler is a reportage illustrator who has been based at Bootstrap for 7 years. He has travelled the world and illustrated Doctors Without Borders and more recently covered the ongoing Syrian Refugee crisis. Olivier discussed how the Bootstrap Fund enables him to undergo these projects.
Simin Azimi, Director of the Refugee Women’s Association (RWA), spoke of how the RWA’s work relies on being based here at Bootstrap in Dalston, as they have been for the past 23 years. Without Bootstrap and their workspace in Dalston they would cease to exist as they rely so heavily on their location and having a space to work with their beneficiaries.
Bootstrap Company is working hard to boost the Fund so we can support even more tenants and the wonderful work they do. Stay tuned to our Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as our website, for updates.
